Larry Page(39) & Sergey Brin(39) : Founders of Google |
Today is the 14th birthday of Google! Over the years Google has become a must have for the net surfers & It's roughly estimated that about 300million people use Google per a day. I, of course is a huge fan of many of the Google products as they are free, user-friendly, up-to-date and super cooool :) Alexa lists the Google.com site as number 1 in their "internet's most visited websites" listing while many other Google owned sites are within the top 100 of it. So let's take a peek into the interesting success story behind this massive multinational enterprise.
The founders of Google Larry Page and Sergey Brin have met at the Stanford University in 1995, as Sergey was assigned to show Larry around the campus - who was considering the university at that time. Eventually they became friends and started working together on a search engine called BackRub as their research project, on Stanford servers. In 1997 Larry and Sergey renamed BackRub as Google after the mathematical term Googol, which stands for the number 1 followed by 100 zeros. The domain name google.com was registered on September 15, 1997 and they started their company, Google Inc., on September 4, 1998 at a friend's(Susan Wojcicki's) garage in California, USA. (after 2005 they started celebrting the bithday on a more convinient day than the actual one. ex:sept 27th)
{That friend - Susan Wojcicki - is currently a senior vice president in charge of product management and engineering at Google, and was 16th on Forbes Magazine's List of The World's 100 Most Powerful Women in 2011.}
Google.inc branched out rapidly, while introducing new services, expanding offices and attracting investors. By 2000, Google was available in 15 languages and AdWords and the Google Toolbar were officially launched along with many other mini projects.
Today Google is one of the most stable businesses in America offering hundreds of individual products and services to the community. Google has more than 30 000 employees worldwide, and many silicon valley veterans and multimillionaire investors provide a strong base to the company.
That's it about the b'day boy/girl :) (for today)
At the end all I can say is that Google deserves to be called as a strong company with values and bonds that is looking good enough to last for years and years to come...making our lives easier....
Valuable info. Lucky me I found your web site by accident, and I'm surprised why this coincidence did not happened earlier! I bookmarked it.
